Welcome to Unprecedented Semi Truck Fuel Economy
Any fairing can claim to achieve semi trailer aerodynamics and fuel economy under optimized load conditions (such as testing in wind tunnels with the bogeys in the forward position to maximize trailer skirt coverage) but what happens to the claimed fuel savings in real-world, non-optimized conditions?
This is why Windyne’s patented Flip and Slide™ aerodynamic trailer side skirts were tested under various conditions over thousands of real-world miles recorded from customers who agreed to use their rigs as test vehicles. Meticulous data was kept! Despite varying conditions such as load positions, temperatures, weather, driving habits, terrain, and distance the Flip and Slide™ aerodynamic trailer side skirt still averaged 1 extra mile per gallon - with the most impressive savings being recorded by those who drove the furthest.
Why do Windyne Fairings perform So Well?
In a nutshell - Windyne’s patented Flip and Slide™ trailer side skirts provide full semi trailer aerodynamics by covering the underbelly of the trailer at all times.
Our side skirts, using innovative technology inspired by NASA, provide full trailer coverage and help to maximize trailer aerodynamics during all vehicle load positions.
Three key innovations ensure Flip and Slide™ trailer skirts
maintain maximum undercarriage coverage:
Flip Feature allows Full Vertical Coverage
Windyne's patented flip feature allows our fairings to vertically retract and flip up out of the way to avoid larger obstacles or when full access to the undercarriage is needed. This full access is akin to having a naked trailer. Vertical flip means the best of both worlds - maximum trailer coverage in the downward position and full trailer access in the upwards position. A full coverage fairing provides maximum semi trailer aerodynamics benefit which means maximum fuel and emission savings regardless of what challenges one may encounter in real world long-haul scenarios.
Slide Feature allows Full Horizontal Coverage
Windyne's patented slide feature allows our trailer fairings to horizontally slide (telescope) with the movement of the rear wheels - which means a full coverage fairing during all rear wheel and vehicle load positions. Full coverage of the trailer undercarriage maximizes trailer aerodynamics and means maximum fuel savings (and maximum emission savings) over the long-haul. A full coverage trailer fairing also allows the fairings to perform as side guard protection increasing safety to people, pets, cyclists, and other motorists.
Flex Skirt Contributes to Vertical Coverage
The flex skirt is a flexible molding that finishes the bottom of Flip and Slide™ trailer skirts and provides 4 inches of ground clearance. The flexible nature of the skirt yields to common obstacles such as curbs, sloped docks, uneven terrain and can avoid high centering. This feature allows normal truck and trailer operation for smaller obstacles without additional action. The trailer skirt can be flipped up (see above) for larger obstacles. The purpose of the flex skirt is to allow for maximum vertical coverage (lower ground clearance) - which means increased aerodynamic trailer benefit and increased fuel and emission savings.
Additional Savings
Windyne prides itself on great design, high-quality materials and craftsmanship to deliver a product and experience that is unmatched.
We believe that no detail is too insignificant and at Windyne excellence is always the standard. Every aspect of the Flip and Slide™ fairing has been carefully considered to deliver an exquisite final product using nothing but top-quality parts, materials and sturdy construction. Flip and Slide™ fairings are designed to last 10 years (under standard wear and tear and normal operating procedures) and some have lasted longer according to customer testimonials. Longer product-life increases profitability as fuel savings do not have to be reinvested in replacing fairings every few years.
